5 Things Friday…
Happy Friday Friends!!
I’ve been bouncing around a couple of ideas to start a more regular schedule of blogging and posting around these parts. One of the ideas I came up with is 5 Things Fridays. Meaning on Fridays I pop in with a short post about 5 things I’m loving right now. Can’t guarantee it will be every Friday but eventually that’s what I’d like to aim for.
Today’s 5 Things are a mix of goodies I’m using and loving right now. I’ve been cranking out memory quilts left and right lately so several of these things are quilt related. I promise to not make every 5 Things post just quilting or fabric related 🙂
#1 Thrive Market Thrive Market is my new favorite online health food shop. Without getting into too many boring details I’ll just say that I have some health challenges that keep me on a very restricted diet. No grains of any kind (wheat, rice, quinoa, millet etc…..), no dairy, no legumes, no soy. I could go on and on but you get the point. I’m eating a very strict Paleo diet plan right now and will most likely be on this plan 90% of the time for the rest of my life. Enter Thrive Market I have ordered from the site 3 or 4 times in the last 4-6 weeks and have been thrilled with everything I’ve tried. There is a Natural Grocers near me but Trader Joes and Whole Foods are both more than 30 minutes away so shopping online is definitely easier and more convenient. If you use my link above (the first one right after the #1) you can save 25% off your first order. There are so many yummy healthy options and I really can’t say enough good things about the site!!
#2 Hobbs Fusible Batting
Game changer friends!!! To say that I don’t love basting quilts would be an enormous understatement. It is one of my least favorite parts of quilting. When I discovered this fusible batting it was like the clouds parted and the angels started singing the Hallelujah Chorus. It’s that good!. You simply press your quilt sandwich (top, batting and backing) together from the center out and voila you have a basted quilt ready to finish right away. What could be better than that?! Well a sale of course. It’s 30% off at Connecting Threads right now. Run, don’t walk, and snag a couple of packages before the sale ends 7/23.
#3 Wide Backing quilt fabric
This is another major quilting time saver. I don’t know about you but piecing the back of a quilt together always seems to add a bunch of extra time and some minor frustration to my projects. Not to mention the fact that I’m OCD and like the patterns to match perfectly so inevitably I have to plan for at least an hour of extra work. Both Connecting Threads and Fabric.com have good selections of Wide Backs. The red gingham above is one of my very favorites and I’ve used it several times.
#4 Kona Cotton solid fabric.
Kona is my go to for solid colored fabric. I use it for sashing between the blocks of a memory quilt, background fabric for a more traditional pieced quilt and sometimes even pieced parts of the quilt or the binding. White, Snow and Silver are my three favorite colors. Kona is on sale 20% as the Basic of the Month at Fat Quarter Shop. Click the link above and you’ll head right there.
#5 Florence and The Machine
If you haven’t had a chance to listen to FATM’s new album High as Hope you need to get on it right away! It’s amazing and I’ve had it on repeat in my car for a couple of weeks now. Lucky me she is coming to SLC in September so I grabbed tickets for hubby and I to go see her live. We watched her on Austin City Limits recently and were blown away. Check her out if you need something new to listen to other than your bickering children this summer.
Well there you have it. 5 Things for this lovely Friday. I’d love to hear 5 Things you’re loving lately.
