Burnt Sugar-Pattern Testing for Aqua Paisley Studio
Hello friends!
I wanted to take a few minutes today and share some photos and info about an amazing quilt pattern I was able to test. I pattern test for quilt designers on a regular basis and love it! I enjoy the challenge and the opportunity to stretch my quilty skills while helping others in the industry that I love. Samantha Dorn with Aqua Paisley Studio put out a call for pattern testers recently and the stars aligned making it possible for me to help out.
This is a great pattern you guys!
Burnt Sugar is the name of the pattern and my mind immediately went to bright colored candy. The pattern calls for a Layer Cake and background fabric. As luck would have it I happened to have a Bonnie and Camille Basics Layer Cake on hand and some of my favorite Kona White yardage. The bright primary colors in the Basics line fit perfectly with the candy colors I had in my mind. Kona White is my go to background fabric. I also think this would be beautiful with a light gray linen background as well.
The instructions in the pattern are simple and straightforward. I love the use of white or negative space and am really pleased with the finished quilt. There are some smaller pieces to cut so just be sure and use a sharp rotary cutter blade and a good ruler.
I used a buttery yellow colored vintage sheet from my stash for the backing and a navy blue and white vintage print also from my stash for the binding. I love mixing new and older materials in my projects when I can. If you haven’t tried using vintage sheets you’re missing out! They are so soft and cozy. I promise you won’t regret it.
I finished the quilt by straight line quilting it on my domestic machine and machine stitched the binding down. I do that frequently when I know the quilt will be used and loved frequently. My own experience has shown me that the binding is the first thing to wear out so I often choose a darker colored print and attach it by machine for some extra durability. I actually like the look of a contrasting thread on the darker binding which you can see in some of the photos above.
At the end of the day I love this quilt and was honored to help Samantha test it out before she released the pattern. You can find it in her shop here https://www.aquapaisleystudio.com/shop/pdf-patterns/burnt-sugar-pdf-quilt-pattern/
In full disclosure I received this pattern at no cost in exchange for my time spent testing it.
Happy Wednesday friends!
